Long video platforms, such as Mango TV, iQiyi, Tencent Video and Youku, have achieved profitability or reduced losses in 2022 after years of fierce competition and heavy investment.

Mango TV, as the core business of Mango Excellent Media, contributed nearly 80% of its revenue and was the main source of profit. iQiyi achieved its first annual profit under Non-GAAP with a total revenue of 29 billion yuan. Tencent Video reported a revenue of over 10 billion yuan and started to make profits since last October. Youku showed a trend of narrowing losses in Alibaba's latest financial report.

Long video platforms are platforms that mainly provide long-form videos such as movies, TV shows and documentaries. Typical long video platforms include Bilibili, iQiyi, Tencent Video and Youku.

The profitability of long video platforms is not only due to their cost control and efficiency improvement measures, but also to their strategic shifts and business expansion in various aspects.

In addition to their main business of content production and distribution, long video platforms have also expanded their business scope horizontally in areas such as e-commerce, live streaming, short videos and social networking.

Moreover, each platform has also tried to focus on some key areas instead of pursuing a large and comprehensive layout. For example, Bilibili is known for its animation and youth culture content; iQiyi is strong in variety shows and online dramas; Tencent Video has an advantage in sports events and self-produced dramas; Youku has a reputation for documentaries and reality shows.

The profitability of long video platforms is only a start, and they still need to explore more opportunities and challenges in the future.
