City is the greatest invention of the humankind. While we enjoy urban life, we also fall victim to the problems of urbanization, including the unrestricted expansion of urban spaces, the unchecked growth of urban population, and the monotony of urban outlook.

Chengdu, dubbed "the Land of Abundance", is surrounded by scenic mountains and rivers and boasts rich cultural heritage, therefore it has the unique advantages to explore the model of future cities and share experience in city development in the new era.

Recently, awards for the widely participated Logo Design Competition of Chengdu's Tianfu New Area have been unveiled. We intend to demonstrate the unique charm of Chengdu, where the concept of Garden City originated, via the award-winning designs.

Strategy I: Building an environment of blue sky and clear water through systematic measures.

Chengdu carries out precise management of air pollution, including reduction of industrial emission and control of mobile pollution sources and dust. The city will also continue to promote the management of water resources, water environment and water ecology, and to strengthen protection and ecological restoration of natural waters. Pilot projects of contaminated soil rehabilitation will be conducted, and capacity for the disposal of solid waste will be improved.

Strategy II: Creating a landscape that blends the city with gardens through addition of greenery.

With aesthetic ideas and garden art in mind, Chengdu designs urban ventilation corridors, the Tianfu Greenway, parks and green spaces, and community streets. Chengdu will modify the space structure of landscaping, add more lawns, and expand open and multi-layer green spaces in accordance with the city's weather and buildings, in order to further improve the ecological quality of the renowned leisure city.

Strategy Ⅲ: Attracting people through quality urban ecology and fresh and pleasant urban environment.

Chengdu thinks outside of the box amid efforts of building itself a “Garden City”. Creating a network of green spaces is regarded as the impetus to change the urban development model, optimize the population distribution structure and promote the rational allocation of resource elements. Greenway system will help improve the city's functions and quality and breed a group of new and quality communities, which is expected to improve citizens' living conditions, enhance a city's reputation, push up the value of land resources, and develop various consumption forms.

Strategy IV: Innovatively providing accessible public services.

By building parks and open spaces, Chengdu offers citizens green facilities. The Tianfu Greenway, not merely a slow traffic system, functions as part ofthe city's ecology, culture, leisure and sports system, changing the urban form and people's lifestyle. The greenways are built to satisfy citizens' need of recreational and sports facilitiesand to develop a 15-minute basic public service circle.

Strategy V: Achieving green development through establishment of low carbon and circular industrial system.

With people-oriented urban development concept, Chengdu is building an open and modern industrial system supported by advanced manufacturing industry, emerging service industry and the new economy. The city is dedicated to developing the new economy and fostering new momentums of growth, and believes that functional areas for industries are garden scenes and also new communities of a city. The southwest city is following a green, efficient and intensive way for the development of its industries.
