CHENGDU, Feb. 20 (NBD) -- China's onboard internet provider for public transport 16WiFi announced Thursday that it plans to shut down operations in some major cities, stating unaffordable costs for running these projects as one of the causes.
It is expressed in an official statement that 16WiFi projects will be suspended in major cities including Guangzhou, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Hangzhou, with operations in Beijing and Kunming to remain.
16WiFi staff said to NBD that the Beijing-based tech firm will cooperate with some major enterprises of big data, groping for new business models, in an effort to broaden sources of income and reduce expenditure.
