
CHENGDU, Jan. 4 (NBD) -- According to the instruction on deepening reform and accelerating transformation and upgrading in road passenger transport (instruction) released Tuesday by China's Ministry of Transport (MoT), the restructuring of the operation entities in road passenger transport will be promoted.
The road passenger transport enterprises are encouraged to integrate market resources, scale up the operation, and increase their anti-risk capability, the instruction said. Passenger transport enterprises on the main roads are supported to integrate resources to set up joint-stock companies or branches in other places, in an effort to promote the networked operation. The Public-Private Partnership (PPP) mode will be probed to introduce social capital into road passenger transport services, depots construction and operation services.
Bi Zhiqing, the senior partner of Beijing Dayue Consulting, told NBD that, with large market size, the public transport have investment demands in passenger transport service and depots construction.
Data from MoT shows, the volume of road passenger transport reached 14.24 billion person times from Jan. to Nov. 2016, with 1.18 billion person times in Nov. alone.
According to Ministry of Finance of China, the number of PPP projects in transportation grew to 1,268 in Sept. from 1,132 in Jun. 2016. The transport projects in Sept. attracted a total of 3.71 trillion yuan (533.61 billion US dollars).
