CHENGDU, Dec. 23 (NBD) -- Cabbies for car-hailing apps will be made to sit an English listening test under new rules by the transport management bureau of the Beijing Municipal Committee of Transport. 

Drivers must pass three exams before they are handed a license to hit the road, with contents covering policies and regulations, English listening, geographic knowledge, driving skills, and app-based order taking. Pass mark for the exams varies. Taxi cabbies can turn to ride-hailing apps after passing the job transfer exam. 

No fee will be charged for the exams, and those flunked can take make-up exams.
