Mass freight tricycles will now be registered in Beijing in order to improve the management and safety of the vehicles.

Since many freight tricycles are unlicensed and couriers ignore traffic rules, forty delivery companies in Beijing will have 57,000 freight tricycles registered and painted with the same labels, reported the People's Daily.

Each tricycle will have a unique ID code and labeled with "delivery" on the upper part of the freight box. Each will include the company's logo and hotline below.

Couriers will have a delivery card, and need to take a traffic rule test for a license to drive on the road.

Traffic authorities will be in charge of safety, and record the training of each delivery company, said Wang Baohua, general-secretary of Beijing Delivery Association.

If the courier violates traffic rules, both the courier and the delivery company will be fined. Those who continuously have traffic offenses will be removed from the road.

In the future, authorities will also equip a GPS positioning system to monitor the delivery route of freight tricycles, added Wang.

Some cities like Shenzhen have already cracked down on the use of unlicensed electric bikes and freight tricycles to improve road safety.
